Light and Shadow is inspired by the great decorative traditions of the past, particularly the sumptuous wall décors of historic sites such as the Château de Versailles, where the art of grisaille and bas-relief has long been used to elevate spaces. This work merges the classical elegance of bas-relief with the depth of grisaille, creating a captivating visual effect that subtly plays with light and shadow.
The bas-relief technique, adding volume and texture to the canvas, invites the viewer into an immersive experience, while grisaille, with its refined palette of grays and subtle nuances, enhances every detail and form. This fusion of depth and tonal variation creates an illusion of space, echoing the grand wall décors of palaces and châteaux, where painting seamlessly integrates with architecture.
